ABINGTON artist Andrew Rae Ronnie is still going strong...even at 81-years-young!

Andrew, who discovered his love for fine art during WWII, is still working hard and even takes an art class for eager students in Douglas St Bride’s Centre.

Andrew, who discovered his love for fine art during WWII, is still working hard and even takes an art class for eager students in Douglas St Bride’s Centre.

But it is his garage mural of a beautiful Highland landscape at his home which has really got people talking!

Andrew said: “The garage was looking a bit tired so I decided to give it a coat of white paint.

“When I added a second coat I thought to myself that it would be a fabulous canvas so decided to start working on a Highland landscape.

“I finished the full door by the end of the day.

“One German tourist was lost and when I gave him directions and pointed him in the right direction he asked if he could take a couple of pictures of the doors. He sent me a few back.

“I’ve also been offered money from a family friend, who lives in Malta, to take the doors over there but I decided against it.”

Having gained inspiration to begin painting from a POW during WWII, Andrew went to art school in Dundee.

And his love for painting, especially landscapes, has grown ever since.

He continued: “Painting landscapes is what I enjoy and that is why I still teach. It’s really enjoyable and exciting using the different colours in creating a new piece of work.”

His friend Patricia Robinson added: “His enthusiasm for art is just fantastic. Even at 81-years-old he is still taking a class every week in Douglas. I can’t believe the work that he does.”
