THE streets of Lanark will look more like Lapland tonight as our traders mount some ‘elfy’ competition to the big towns and cities for a share of the Christmas shopping rush.
For the third year in succession, the Lanark Business Group is organising a late night opening, scores of shops and businesses keeping their doors open late into the evening to encourage folk to do as much of their festive buying right here where they live rather than taking their wallets and purses elsewhere.
And, as last year, an Elf theme has been adopted with everyone from shoppers to shop assistants being encouraged to add to the Yuletide atmosphere by dressing as Santa’s Little Helpers.
The members of the public dressing as Elves are asked to assemble at the Tolbooth at 7pm so that Lanark’s ‘Best Dressed Elf’ can be chosen.
There is also a prize for the best-dressed shop window on the night.
