THE first Music in Lanark concert of 2014 will see the Cosmopolitan Big Band taking to the stage at the New Lanark Institute.
The youthful 20-piece band formed four years ago and has wowed audiences at the Callander Blues & Jazz Festival and the Largs Viking Festival, to name but a few.
The band provides an entertaining, energetic take on a selection of jazz standards and a range of funk and soul material with everything from Average White Band, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, and Blues Brothers thrown in.
Music in Lanark chairman Jamie Hill said: “Vocalists Gary Bennet and Emma Gilchrist get the audiences toes tapping to the point where they can’t resist dancing.”
The band will play the New Lanark Institute on Saturday, January 18, at 7.45pm.
Tickets, priced £10, are available from Tariq Newsagents in the Bloomgate, Playful Greetings in Bannatyne Street, the Gift Shop at New Lanark and at www.musicinlanark.co.uk.
The concert kicks off an exciting few months for those connected with Music in Lanark.
Other acts confirmed in the MiL line-up are the Marylebone Wind Quintet, classical guitarist Martin Aelred and chamber ensemble Onyx Brass.
