PREZZO – Cardiff

It was a last minute decision by the team to go to Prezzo, an Itallian restaurant in Cardiff City centre.
We arrived at about 7pm with no reservation but were shown to a lovely table overlooking the main street.

The staff were very friendly and welcoming.

To start we ordered some drinks and some olives (£2.75 per small dish).
The olives were delicious and we all scoffed them quickly.

To follow this I had ordered a starter of the GRILLED GOAT’S CHEESE with plum tomatoes and caramelised onions on focaccia bread with a balsamic glaze (£4.95)

The starter was a lovely, fresh and tasty combination of flavours.

My only suggested improvements would be to have a thinner bread as the base of the focaccia, even though beautifully fresh and light was a bit thick.
The tomato would also be better if it was grilled or roasted.
The fresh salad on the plate would be better if it had been tossed in a balsamic dressing before being put on the plate. The dark sticky balsamic sauce drizzled across the plate could be left off as it added nothing but brown smears to my plate.

For main course I had ordered the POLLO GORGONZOLA char grilled chicken breast with field mushrooms and leeks in a gorgonzola and cream sauce (£11.65).

I have to say that this was delicious. My only criticism was that the gratinated potatoes that came with it were uncooked and a little cold. Also I would suggest that vegetables would be better than the bit of undressed salad that was on my plate.

Overall we all had a lovely time and the food was good.

Its a tad on the expensive side, but the price is much what you’d expect from this sort of restaurant. Had quite a few pasta dishes here and very much enjoyed each one. The sauces are good, and the pasta is al dente (always a measure of a proper Italian restaurant in my book). They will alter sauces to your requirements, e.g. extra chilli, which suggests they are fresh and not just catering packs. Nice prompt service and ambience, though the music is a bit too loud sometimes. One of my favourites in the centre of Cardiff.

Went there for a meal after the cinema and it is actually a nice place to go out for something to eat, but it didn’t left me a lasting impression. The staff was very nice and prompt, everything we wanted we had it. But in the end I found it to be pricy for the food we had… The pizzas are £10 each, and so is the rest of the menu, they have a quite nice varied menu, compared to other places.

I did like the decor, the ever so present stone oven and the attention of the staff.

I didn’t like the non Italian feeling of it all, seem to bland and just another posh restaurant.

I do reccomend a visit but be prepared to fork out at least £17 each, the drinks and the desserts are pricey.

Really nice place inside, classy compared to other italian resteraunts. Service was prompt and staff were very accomodating. Menu was nicely varied and mains about £10 a head and the portions are large. Drinks aren’t too badly priced and the cheesecake for dessert is amazing. Wine is a little bit expensive but they have a nice variety. Lovely meal out and the staff were great when we turned up unexpectedly with a party of 10 and we were all served within 1/2 an hour.
