POOLING POWER: Almost exactly half a century ago Lanark gained a new attraction in the form of the Clydesdale area’s first ever swimming pool, pictured here (above) in the year it opened after getting a final inspection (left) from Lanark Town Council. The cost of the pool in 1962 was so great, a referendum was held to get the ratepayers of Lanark’s approval before the project went ahead. They approved that colossal expenditure – of £60,000! The much-loved Lanark Baths served the area well until its demolition and Lanark Lifestyles replacement two years ago.
